The Most Exceptional Person Who I Ever Met

By Marco Guajardo

My grandfather was a wise man who taught me about life. He was a person who guided his all family when he was only twenty years old; he started to work in a lot of self sacrificing jobs in many places. He worked as an electrician in a big national company and he spent a lot of time travelling and knowing a lot of beautiful cities in Chile, like Antofagasta, la Serena, and Chiloé. When I was child, he had time to raise me and taught me a lot of important things. Everyday he had the most interesting stories to tell me and he taught me different things, as for example: how to ride a bike, play cards, how to speak. He taught me Maths too when I started to have homework in the school. Most important, he guided me to be a better person, giving me pieces of advice whenever I needed them. He was like my second father and was always there to help me. The last year that I shared with him, he taught me how to carve the wood. With the passing of the years, he started to spend his time creating beautiful things with wood. People usually say “we don’t know what we have until we lose it”. I think that is true, and helps you to take more value to persons who surround you. Try to share your experiences, spend time with your family and friends and learn of the essence of people, like I did it with my grandfather, the most intelligent and wisest person who I ever met.
